The global technology distributor and specialist supplier Westcon-Comstor is marking its 40th anniversary by highlighting a series of industry trends that will shape the company's strategy in the coming months and years. As part of its anniversary, the company is launching the initiative Future Ready – an initiative that will help channel partners stay one step ahead in a rapidly changing digital world.
Founded on June 24, 1985, Westcon-Comstor currently employs approximately 3,700 people worldwide. In its most recent fiscal year (FY25), the company achieved record gross sales of $5.24 billion.

The channel of the future – six trends shaping the IT landscape
Future Ready-initiative contains a compilation of the six most influential trends that Westcon-Comstor believes will drive growth and transformation in the IT channel:
1. MSP:s and specialized partners become winners in the hybrid era
Hybrid environments offer great opportunities – but only for those service providers (MSPs) and partners who can deliver services that integrate automation, security, governance, and data flow between platforms. The real strength lies in owning the interconnecting layer.
2. Cybersecurity is a business strategic priority
Security is no longer just an IT responsibility. It is now a critical part of the CFO's risk model, the COO's continuity plan and the CEO's brand strategy. Successful partners must therefore be able to link cybersecurity solutions to business outcomes, compliance, resilience and even M&A readiness.
3. AI Redefines the role of the channel from infrastructure to intelligence
With AI as the engine behind data processes, the focus shifts towards intelligent and adaptive data structures that can learn, optimize and respond in real time. The role of the channel will be to enable orchestration between AI models, data governance and distributed environments.
4. The new cloud channel requires new rules of the game
Cloud-based marketplaces, partner-to-partner models, consumption-based billing, and ecosystem sales are changing the playing field. Partners must integrate with hyperscale applications, drive consumption-based growth and deliver value-added services – not just technology.
5. AI requires redefined network – the channel has the key
With AI workloads and real-time data, static is no longer enough network. The networks of the future must be self-healing, adaptive, and secure. Channel partners who can build such networks are poised to lead the evolution in intent-based architectures and zero-trust models.
6. Digitalization of the SMB market – the channel's next big growth engine
Small and medium-sized business (SMB) are rapidly digitizing and require cybersecurity, cloud services, AI solutions, and support for hybrid work. Partners that offer scalable, automated, and repeatable solutions – with support from vendors and distributors – will be able to tap into a highly profitable market.
A look in the rearview mirror – with an eye on the future
As part of Future Ready-the program will Westcon-Comstor to delve deeper into these trends through research, interviews with partners and suppliers, and insights from industry leaders.
