This is an increase of 36 percent compared to the same period last year, the highest in the Nordic region and the second highest in Europe after Germany.
In Sweden, the public sector remains the most vulnerable, followed by the financial sector and healthcare. The development in Sweden is significantly stronger than globally. Globally, the number of attacks increased by 16 percent compared to July last year, to an average of 2336 attacks per organization per week. Europe also shows a clear increase of 18 percent.
Meanwhile, ransomware is on the rise. In July, 964 ransomware victims were recorded globally, an 87 percent increase compared to July 2025 and a 49 percent increase compared to June. This is a clear break from the trend after the first six months of the year, when the monthly average was around 672 reported victims. Europe accounted for 28 percent of the reported cases. 
Generative AI also poses new security risks as more tools are deployed in businesses. On average, organizations used eight different AI tools in July, and one in 36 AI prompts sent from corporate networks were assessed as having a high risk of exposing sensitive data. In total, 22 percent of prompts contained potentially sensitive information. Personal data was the most common type of sensitive information, followed by financial data and information about networks and IT infrastructure.
– The development in Sweden stands out, says Fredrik Sandstrom, security expert at Check Point Software. An increase of 36 percent in one year shows that Swedish businesses are facing rapidly growing pressure. In parallel, we see how ransomware is increasing rapidly and how the use of generative AI creates new ways for sensitive information to leave the organization. This places higher demands on preventive security work that encompasses the entire business.
