TCS and ABB have signed a new multi-year agreement under which TCS will be responsible for ABB's entire global network operations. The companies have worked together for 20 years, with TCS managing parts of ABB's infrastructure and applications.
The background is that ABB's network environment today is fragmented. Different countries use different solutions with different suppliers. The “Future Network Model” program will replace this with a common architecture that is centrally managed, with TCS responsible for design, integration and operation. It includes a common operations center (NOC), upgraded LAN and WAN environments with SD-WAN, centralized service management via SIAM and new security layers.
TCS will also coordinate ABB's other network suppliers, effectively making them a prime contractor for the network. They will also be responsible for monitoring and orchestrating the entire chain.
Alec Joannou, CIO at ABB, describes the program as a major milestone in strengthening the digital foundation of ABB’s global operations. He emphasizes that ABB needs a network that is resilient, secure and aligned with the company’s long-term goals.
Anupam Singhal at TCS says that AI is being built into the operating model to create network systems that can continuously sense changes, adapt and improve. He highlights that the approach is based on TCS experience of ABB's environment over the past 20 years.
The companies have previously collaborated on the consolidation of ABB's SAP environment and a move to cloud-based solutions.
