DDoS attacks, which overload networks with massive amounts of data, have increased significantly and pose significant risks to businesses globally. To address the threat landscape and further strengthen its customers’ defenses against cyberattacks, GlobalConnect is now introducing basic DDoS protection for all enterprise customers, starting January 1, 2025. The aim is to secure networks by rejecting known threats and analyzing traffic to identify and stop attacks.
According to statistics from McKinsey Research*, global DDoS attacks doubled in 2024 compared to 2023, with businesses now experiencing an average of 11 attacks per year. The escalation is particularly noticeable in the EMEA region, which accounts for 57 percent of attacks, with sectors such as telecoms, software services, banking and insurance, and the public sector being the most vulnerable. The attacks can cause significant financial damage and lead to temporary business downtime, while brands can also be negatively impacted.
“With this initiative, we offer all our corporate customers "...a basic protection against the most common types of attacks. It is a major step in meeting the increasing threat landscape and increases our customers' ability to protect themselves against cyberattacks," says Anna Granö, EVP B2B at GlobalConnect.
GlobalConnect's new DDoS service ensures operational reliability
Despite the increasing awareness of DDoS threats, surveys show that only 70 percent of companies globally have implemented some form of protection against DDoS attacks. GlobalConnect's new DDoS protection therefore fills a critical gap in the market, providing companies a reliable solution to protect their operations. With a focus on maintaining operational reliability and protecting the companies' resources, this initiative will help strengthen digital infrastructure and increase resilience against cyber threats.
Four levels of protection tailored to the needs of different businesses
GlobalConnect has over 30,000 B2B customers and a 235,000 kilometer long fiber network covering Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Finland. Already today it offers GlobalConnect several different levels of DDoS protection to meet different business security needs, and starting January 1, 2025, all customers will automatically be covered by the basic protection, Base.
“By offering multiple levels of protection, we ensure that all customers, regardless of size and type of business, have the security they need to protect their resources and maintain operational reliability,” continues Anna.
The protection levels available as of January 1, 2025 are:
- Base – Automatic protection that filters out malicious traffic and ensures continued operation during common overload attacks.
- Standard – Automatic protection against overload attacks, with reporting and alarms in case of incidents and attacks.
- Business – Advanced protection with dedicated hardware that filters and cleans traffic, providing extra protection against more complex attacks.
- Advanced – Tailored security for advanced threats, including the ability to create your own protection profiles and protection against application attacks.
“Our commitment to strengthening corporate cybersecurity has always been a high priority, and with the new basic DDoS protection level, we are taking further steps to meet the increasing threats in the digital world,” concludes Anna Granö.
