The winner of Sweden's largest innovation competition, Experts of Tomorrow Innovation Race, has finally been selected! And it is class 6A at the International English School in Lund who takes home this year's victory. According to the jury's justification, their contribution has a unique holistic approach where technology, social benefit and sustainability are linked in a well-thought-out and relevant way.
This year's edition of the competition involved over 200 middle school classes from all over Sweden. This year's theme was "here and there and here again" and the assignment was to come up with an innovation with a focus on transportation. Once again this year, all ten finalist entries showed evidence of unadulterated innovation and ingenious problem solving. As usual, the jury had a tough task choosing from all the strong entries.
New this year was that they also named a bronze and a silver medalist. And the first bronze of the competition went to class 4 at Länghemsskolan in Länghem with their entry ”Matbilen”. The silver medal was deservedly awarded to class 6 at Möllevångsskolan in Malmö with their entry ”Pipe mail for people”.
This year's winners Experts of Tomorrow Innovation Race is class 6A at the International English School in Lund. Their contribution, Move 2 Freedom, is an innovation that converts movement into electricity through generators in shoe soles. The energy is stored in a portable battery. A sustainable solution where every step contributes to clean energy. According to the jury's motivation, the winning contribution shows how small, smart ideas can have a big impact. And that it has a clear holistic approach where technology, social benefit and sustainability are linked in a way that feels both well thought out and relevant. The idea is easy to grasp and at the same time has a clear direction forward. An inspiring contribution with strong development potential that the jury sees great opportunities to build on.
– This year too we have received wonderful competition entries from all over Sweden. The participants once again show an impressive understanding of technology and innovation. This makes us very hopeful for the future. So now we are running the success for the third year in a row, says Johan Glennmo, Chairman of the Board of Sigma Group.
An investment in attracting more future technology talent
The competition Experts of Tomorrow Innovation Race is part of Sigma's initiative to increase interest in technology among young people. With a worrying decline in interest in technology in middle school, the goal is to inspire middle school students to explore technology and innovation at an early stage. By allowing students to work creatively with real-world problems, Sigma hopes to pave the way for the engineers and technical experts of the future.
