Genetec expands support for offline access control in the cloud, on-premises and hybrid deployments

With support for OSS Standard Offline, Genetec™ Security Center and Security Center SaaS now allow enterprises to manage supported offline locks in a unified system, reducing complexity and modernizing access control.

As organizations and companies modernize their physical security systems many still face a challenge: Offline installations often lag behind other broader cloud strategies, forcing companies to compromise on flexibility, robustness or vendor selection. To address this challenge, Genetec Inc. is now introducing OSS Standard Offline functionality in Genetec™ Security Center and Security Center SaaS.

The solution enables management of offline locks from multiple vendors in a single unified system with a common access authority. This frees organizations from being tied to proprietary access cards, fragmented workflows, or a fixed deployment model. This simplifies day-to-day administration for security teams, provides a more consistent access experience for users, and supports better utilization of existing access control investments.

Flexible implementation without restrictions from IT architecture

While many access control systems tie offline functionality to a specific system architecture, Genetec™ Security Center and Security Center SaaS support deployment in on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This means organizations can apply the same offline lock-down strategy regardless of how their security system is implemented. This allows organizations to gradually evolve their security infrastructure, align it with their IT strategy, and modernize at a pace that suits their business.

“Organizations shouldn’t have to choose between reliable offline functionality, freedom of choice in hardware, and flexibility in deployment,” said Bob van Keulen, Regional Sales Manager, Benelux & Nordics at Genetec. By supporting interoperable offline locks across different deployment models, we make it easier for customers to modernize their security systems without locking them into a specific solution.

Removing barriers to offline access control modernization

Offline locks are essential in many environments – from remote locations to buildings with many people and doors, where cables or constant network connectivity are not practical. However, managing these locks has traditionally required separate systems, multiple access cards or long-term hardware connections, making modernization more complex.

With support for interoperable offline lock management, organizations can simplify administration without compromising flexibility. Security teams can use the same access credentials for all supported offline locks and manage them through the same platform used for online doors. This reduces administrative burden and ensures a consistent access experience across locations.

Offline locks continue to function independently of network connectivity, strengthening resilience in the event of network outages or system disruptions, while maintaining central insight and control for the organization.

An open architecture based on industry standards

Support for OSS Standard Offline is part of Genetec's open architecture, giving organizations the freedom to design, implement, and evolve their security infrastructure over time. By basing the solution on open standards, customers can avoid proprietary limitations while maintaining compatibility with supported hardware from multiple manufacturers.

Genetec is also an active member of the Open Security Standards Association (OSS Association), an association of industry players working towards increased interoperability and flexibility in access control.
