Fifth-generation DM technology is introduced in Europe's first plug-in hybrid hatchback in the B-segment. The new model offers up to 1,040 kilometers of total range and a weighted fuel consumption of just 1.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
BYD DOLPHIN G DM-i is the first model in Europe to introduce BYD's new DM 5.0 Super Hybrid technology. The model offers up to 1,040 kilometers of total range, 105 kilometers of electric range and very low fuel consumption.

The new model is the first The BYD car which has been designed and developed specifically for the European market. Thanks to improvements in powertrain, thermal management and electrical integration, it offers DOLPHIN G DM-i a combination of efficiency, performance and flexibility that places the model at the forefront of its segment.
Fifth generation super hybrid technology
BYDs Super Hybrid DM technology has been a global success since its introduction and is currently used in more than 8.5 million vehicles worldwide. The technology has also had a strong impact in Europe, where BYD has become one of the leading plug-in hybrid brands in several markets through models such as the ATTO 2 DM-i, SEAL 6 DM-i, SEALION 5 DM-i, SEAL U DM-i and SEAL 5 DM-i.
With DOLPHIN G DM-i The fifth generation of the technology is now being introduced in Europe's first plug-in hybrid hatchback in the B-segment. The DM 5.0 builds on previous generations with extensive improvements in powertrain, temperature control and electronic integration.
More efficient driveline and lower consumption
At the heart of the DM 5.0 is a newly developed 1.5-liter gasoline engine that is optimized for use in the hybrid system. The engine has a higher compression ratio of 16:1 and uses intelligent fuel injection, improved combustion, split cooling and variable lubrication.
IN DOLPHIN G DM-i The petrol engine delivers 95 horsepower, equivalent to 70 kW.
BYD has also further developed the electric hybrid system (EHS) through optimized cooling, improved transmission design and the use of ultra-thin silicon steel sheets, which contributes to higher efficiency and better energy efficiency.

Advanced temperature management improves range
DM 5.0 also introduces a new temperature management architecture that coordinates cooling and heating of the battery, cabin and drive system.
The solution includes, among other things, direct cooling of BYD's Blade Battery and intelligent control of the cabin climate. This contributes to improved energy efficiency both during cold winters and hot summer days, while optimizing the car's range and performance.
Integrated electronics for a better driving experience
The new generation of super hybrid technology also includes an advanced electronic architecture with integrated powertrain control units. The system provides higher computing capacity, faster signal transmission and better coordination between the vehicle's various components.
Together with BYD's 7-in-1 control system, the car's functions are continuously adapted to road conditions, temperature and driving situation to provide a more refined and efficient driving experience.
Up to 1,040 kilometers range
The result of these improvements is a plug-in hybrid with up to 105 kilometers of electric WLTP range, covering the majority of everyday driving needs.
With a full battery and full tank, you can DOLPHIN G DM-i a total range of up to 1,040 kilometers. The weighted fuel consumption is stated at only 1.4 l/100 km, while the maximum system output amounts to 212 horsepower.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes place in 8.3 seconds.
Developed for European customers
The DOLPHIN G DM-i measures 4,160 mm in length and 1,825 mm in width, which places the model in the middle of the European B-segment.
The long wheelbase of 2,610 mm provides generous interior space and a luggage capacity of a full 425 liters.
BYD has also equipped the model with an extensive range of standard technology and comfort features. Equipment includes:
- 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen
- Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play integrated
- Front and rear parking sensors
- 360-degree camera
- Heated front seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Pond lighting
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) for external power supply
Two battery sizes
The DOLPHIN G DM-i is offered with two different versions of BYD's Blade Battery.
The entry-level Active model is equipped with a 7.42 kWh battery, providing up to 40 kilometers of electric WLTP range and a total range of 1,020 kilometers.
The Boost, Comfort and Sport versions instead get an 18.3 kWh battery, which increases the electric range to 105 kilometers and the total range to 1,040 kilometers. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced from 60 g/km to just 32 g/km.
Faster charging
The Active version has a built-in 3.3 kW AC charger that charges the battery from 15 to 100 percent in just under three hours.
The Boost, Comfort and Sport versions are equipped with a 6.6 kW AC charger as well as DC fast charging of up to 39 kW. With this solution, the larger battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes.
Deliveries are expected in late summer.
BYD dealers in several European markets have already opened order books for the DOLPHIN G DM-i. First customer deliveries are expected in late summer 2026.
Stella Li, Vice President of BYD, comments:
“We never stop driving innovation at BYD, and the launch of the DM 5.0 demonstrates how our commitment to new technology spans the entire model range. The combination of impressive fuel efficiency, electric range for everyday driving and over 1,000 kilometers of total range makes the DOLPHIN G DM-i a model that could change the rules of the game in this important segment of the European market.”
