Nexer and Stibo Systems launch AI solution for CBAM management

Nexer and Stibo Systems launch AI solution for CBAM management Nexer and Stibo Systems launch AI solution for CBAM management

Nexer and Stibo Systems has developed an AI-powered solution to manage the complexity of reporting and compliance with the EU's new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)By integrating AI functionality with Stibo Systems' powerful MDM (Master Data Management) platform STEP offers companies a robust and strategic tool to collect, manage and report emissions data more efficiently.

CBAM – part of the EU's Green Deal

As part of EU Green Deal, an action plan for a sustainable economy in the EU, the CBAM aims to prevent carbon leakage and promote sustainable business practices by imposing a tax on carbon-intensive products manufactured outside the EU. The stringent requirements, including correct product classification, reporting of carbon emissions per product and purchasing carbon certificates, will become mandatory from 2026. The new regulation will pose significant operational and administrative challenges for global companies, whether it concerns the collection, management or sharing of emissions data.

Automated product classification with AI

To meet these challenges, the new solution, part of Sustainability Data Management offering, on Stibo Systems' STEP platform, has been developed with more advanced ML capabilities. The solution automates product classification through so-called unsupervised learning, where AI processes large amounts of data and suggests the most likely CN code when historical data is missing. As the data set grows, further improvements in supervised learning classification accuracy, ensuring that companies can meet compliance requirements with greater confidence and increased efficiency.

More efficient reporting of carbon emissions

In addition to automated classification, the solution streamlines carbon emissions reporting by centralizing and quality-assuring sustainability data, reducing the risk of human error and administrative costs associated with manual collection. By centralizing and creating a so-called masters or a “golden record”, companies can also track and analyze emissions through and from entire supply chains. The increased transparency, that is, the access to more and better data, also enables business leaders to make more informed decisions and communicate what and how much they have achieved in the area with greater certainty to various stakeholders.

CBAM's impact on importers and suppliers

CBAM does not only impact importers. By providing verified and traceable data, the solution facilitates collaboration and ensures both compliance, operational efficiency and increased competitiveness. With over a decade of partnership, Nexer and Stibo Systems combine their deep expertise in master data management and data-driven sustainability to deliver a solution that not only meets today’s CBAM challenges, but also helps organizations prepare for future regulatory changes and work data-driven for a more sustainable business. The demand for more sustainable companies and products from both consumers and investors is increasing every day, which means that control over their climate footprint is a strategic issue that extends far beyond mere compliance.

AI and master data – a strategic resource

“Our solution is not just about meeting regulatory requirements – it is a strategic resource for companies that want to position themselves as leaders in sustainability,” says Jesper Leth, Director of Data Strategy and Product Management at Nexer. “By integrating AI into Stibo Systems’ STEP platform, we enable companies to navigate CBAM with both confidence and flexibility.”
