Garmin launches tactix 8 smartwatch: Stay active and ready for missions

Garmin launches today tactix^®8, next-generation tactical smartwatch. It is available in a new size of 47mm and the traditional size 51mm. tactix 8 now offers dedicated packing and diving activity profiles as well as a speaker and microphone, making it the ultimate tactical smartwatch. Made according to US military standard (MIL-STD-810) for heat, shock and water resistance. Dive-rated to 40 meters with leak-proof buttons, tactix 8 can take you to new depths. • Advanced design: tactix 8 is availableavailable in two sizes, 51 or 47 mm. It features leak-proof buttons and a new sensor cover to protect important sensors. Premium materials like a titanium case and a sapphire crystal display mean this watch can withstand the toughest conditions.
• Built-in speaker and microphone: Make and answer calls directly from your watch when paired with a compatible smartphone. Voice commands like “start a hiking activity,” “set a 5-minute timer,” “save waypoint,” and more can be activated directly from your watch—no phone connection required.
• Diving: Dive down to 40 meters with activity profiles for sport and apnea diving.
• Packing: With this new dedicated activity profile, it is possible to enter the weight of the pack to better understand physical exertion. tactix 8 is ready for any mission with premium mapping features to keep you on track. Preloaded TopoActive maps offer worldwide maps such as Outdoor Maps+ (subscription purchased separately) which offers premium map content like satellite imagery, public land maps and more right on your watch. SatIQ^™ and multi-band GPS offers extraordinary position accuracy – while optimizing battery life. Before you head out for your workout, you can create or find courses in Garmin Connect^™ and seamlessly sync to your watch for turn-by-turn guidance.

Your smartwatch also features a built-in multi-LED flashlight that quickly and easily gives you access to a bright, even light in either white or green. When using Night Vision Goggle (NVG) mode, the display is dimmed to levels that are readable to the primary user (even when using night vision devices) but are nearly invisible to everyone else.

When you are in places you do not want to reveal, you can use the stealth mode function. This turns off all wireless communication, but you still receive distance traveled and biometric data without location data being recorded. By using this function, you can use the watch and also upload recorded data - while your location remains hidden.

Train for the mission

In addition to dozens of dedicated activities such as packing activity to help you stay active, you can tactix 8 It also helps you keep track of your body's performance, endurance and resistance to injury with targeted strength training plans. It also measures your endurance in real time, offers sport-specific workouts and a ton of preloaded sports apps.

Each morning you'll receive a score that shows your training readiness and helps you decide whether it's a good day to push yourself or take it easy. You can also access advanced metrics like endurance score, hill score, VO2 max, training status and more to measure your overall performance.². Tactix 8 is pre-programmed with features that track your health 24/7, including wrist-based Pulse Ox³, Body Battery^™ energy levels, jetlag advisor, advanced sleep tracking, nap tracking and more. When you wake up, you can enjoy a morning report showing your last night's sleep results, your workout outlook and your Heart Rate Variability (HRV) status. All tactix 8 models are also compatible with the ECG app⁴with which you can measure your heart rhythm and see signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib) right on your wrist.

Take you to new depths

tactix 8 feels at home whether you’re in the air or on land, and now in the water with support for sport and apnea dives down to 40 meters. Sport diving records where you entered and exited the water, and a tilt-compensated digital compass helps you navigate. There’s support for multiple gas mixtures up to 40% oxygen. With apnea mode, freedivers and spearfishermen can receive notifications and timers designed to improve their underwater dive and situational preparedness, and also log the location of each dive. Leak-proof buttons, all new to tactix 8, mean you can feel completely confident using your smartwatch underwater.

Applied Ballistics

tactix 8 comes preloaded with the wApplied Ballistics® (AB) Ultralight solver, giving you access to advanced aiming instructions for long-range shooting. The new AB Quantum app can be used with all smartwatches in the tactix 8 series and it provides you with profile, target and ballistic data management and also gives you the ability to use a smartphone as an additional display.

Flight features

Pilots in both civil and military aviation will greatly benefit from the Direct-To navigation feature in tactix 8. With this feature, it is possible to navigate directly to a location or waypoint or use “Nearest” to activate a route to a nearby airport. In addition, aviation weather, including NEXRAD radar, METARs and TAFs, is available so you can see winds, visibility, barometric pressure and more on your smartwatch⁵.

During airborne missions, the Jumpmaster can be used for three different types of jumps: HAHO, HALO and Static. Set the watch to dual-position mode and it will display two coordinate systems simultaneously, such as MGRS and latitude/longitude, on one data screen.
