Palo Alto Networks presents 7 clear insights into cybersecurity trends.
The most important conclusion is that AI will have a dominant role in 2025.

Palo Alto Networks has made a forecast that describes the 7 most important trends in AI and cybersecurity in 2025. These insights are about the future threat landscape, the importance of AI and automation, as well as strategic issues – including platformization that helps companies and authorities to strengthen their cyber defenses and keep pace with threat actors.

The rapid development of AI has been very beneficial for innovation in the IT security industry, while at the same time it brings new risks as threat actors also exploit AI. The development is moving towards an “arms race” where AI is pitted against AI.

– Cybersecurity has become a high-stakes game. With AI As an adversary, you can no longer rely on passive defense. You need an offensive approach with a unified security platform to maintain the upper hand. Companies that centralize their data to get the strongest support from AI are creating the best conditions for success, says Nir Zuk, founder and CTO at Palo Alto Networks.

Speed and adaptability will be crucial factors in future cyber defense. According to the report 2024 Global Digital Trust Insights from PwC, over 40 percent of CTOs and business leaders are unsure about the security risks posed by disruptive technologies like generative AI.

7 cybersecurity insights for 2025:

  1. Consolidation of IT security solutions into a unified platform
The trend is towards unified security platforms that enable AI-based analysis in system development, cloud environments and operational security (SOC).
  2. Large, established organizations are better supported by AI than start-ups
In cybersecurity, large companies with many customers and extensive data sources will have an advantage over AI startups, as access to large amounts of data improves the performance of AI models.
  3. AI takes on a central role
Many security functions within the SOC can be automated using AI, which means that human specialists can focus on tasks that require deeper analysis and strategic thinking. At the same time, demands for transparency are increasing; the decision-making processes of AI systems must be explainable.
  4. Breakthrough for secure browsers adapted to the enterprise environment
Regular browsers pose a security risk. 95 percent of organizations have experience of security incidents in which they are involved. A browser adapted for professional use can provide a much stronger protection against such cyberattacks.
  5. Greater focus on energy issues around AI
With the increasing number of AI systems, energy consumption in data centers is increasing. This leads to a greater focus on energy optimization of AI, also AI for cybersecurity.
  6. Hyped quantum security demands preparedness
Quantum technology cannot yet is used in practice for cyberattacks, which is however expected to be possible within the next decade. Therefore, we need business Prepare for and protect yourself against potential threats.
  7. CIO and CMO – the new radar couple
During the next year, a close cooperation between CIO and CMO on security, compliance and the use of AI to meet all business requirements and on cybersecurity and customer experience.
