Svenska kraftnät chooses HiQ in extensive effort to balance the Nordic power system

Sweden is facing major challenges in its power system. To ensure a stable electricity supply, HiQ selected as one of two suppliers in Swedish power grid new IT framework agreements, with the task of working on a new method for efficient balancing of the Nordic power system.

As the power system changes rapidly, the challenges of ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply increase. Svenska kraftnät is leading the development of Nordic Balancing Model (NBM) – a new, future-proof balancing model for the entire Nordic region. This is being developed in collaboration with the region's transmission network operators and adapted to the EU's common electricity market to support the energy transition.

Swedish power grid has signed a framework agreement with for this development two suppliers, HiQ and Knowit. The agreement has an estimated total volume of up to SEK 1.2 billion and runs for an initial period of three years, with the possibility of extension for up to eight years. Security aspects are central, and the suppliers may be subject to security protection agreements under the Security Protection Act.
