Apple launches iPhone 16E – cheaper option with powerful performance

Apple surprises by launching iPhone 16E instead of a new iPhone SE. With a price tag starting at 8,500 SEK, it becomes a more affordable alternative to the regular iPhone 16 series, which begins with SEK 11,500.

Powerful performance with A18 chip and Apple Intelligence

iPhone 16E comes with latest iOS version and has the same powerful A18 chip like the more expensive models in the iPhone 16 series. This means that it supports Apple Intelligence, Apple's new AI features, which are expected to be launched in Sweden later this year.

One of the big news is that the iPhone 16E is the first Apple-phone with the company's proprietary modem chip, C1This should improve battery life and provide up to 26 hours of continuous video playback, compared to 22 hours for iPhone 16 and 15 hours for the third-generation iPhone SE.

Larger screen but without dynamic island

Unlike iPhone SE 2022, who had a 4.7-inch screen, the iPhone 16E comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display – same size as regular iPhone 16. However, it is missing the dynamic island found in the more expensive models. Instead, it has a sensor panel similar to the one in iPhone 13 Pro.

The screen has HDR support, but lacks a higher refresh rate and runs in 60Hz.

Design and camera features

iPhone 16E has a aluminum frame and comes in two colors: black and white. On the back there is a single 48 MP camera, which according to Apple should offer good image quality even at 2x zoom, despite the lack of a separate telephoto lens with optical zoom.

Hotkey and other functions

Apple has included shortcut key which was first introduced in iPhone 15 Pro, which makes it possible to quickly open, for example, the camera or another optional function. However, the new camera button with swipe function, which is found on the more expensive iPhone 16 models.

iPhone 16E is offered with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB storage, where the entry-level model costs 8,500 SEKPre-booking opens February 21, and the first units are starting to be delivered February 28.
