Dynatrace and the major British financial player Lloyds Banking Group have jointly developed a solution to help Lloyds achieve its sustainability goals. With the help of the Dynatrace Carbon Impact app, Lloyds can now see the environmental and carbon footprint of its IT systems in real time – and the features in the app can also be used by other companies.

Dynatrace has gathered experience and feedback from Lloyds Banking Group to continue developing its app Dynatrace Carbon ImpactThe app converts businesses' usage data from CPUs, storage, disk and network into carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e). It also provides practical advice on how to reduce your overall carbon footprint.

Carbon Impact also provides information on energy and CO2 consumption by source, with the ability to filter data and focus on the parts that have the greatest impact. For example, it can identify underutilized units in selected data centers and units with the highest carbon emissions within a given group.

To achieve these goals, the app leverages the Dynatrace platform with Smartscape topology and relationship maps to accurately optimize and automatically manage applications and processes, facilitating various “green coding” initiatives.

Last year we successfully launched Carbon Impactapp. Since then, we have been working with Lloyds Banking Group to further develop it and support our customers’ hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This has allowed us to accelerate and focus on our product development while helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals,” says Klaus Enzenhofer, Product Manager at Dynatrace.

Working with Dynatrace has helped us make the impact of our carbon emissions from IT visible. Our sustainability efforts require clarity “By working together, we have been able to see where our efforts are having the greatest impact across our IT architecture. This helps us optimise our digital infrastructure and is a key step forward as we work to reduce our direct carbon emissions by at least 75 per cent,” says Kevin Bird, Operational Performance and Analytics Lead at Lloyds Banking Group.
