At the turn of the year, the standard for the next generation of wireless networks, Wi-Fi 7, will be finalized. Now, Cisco is releasing new Wi-Fi 7 products that enable greatly increased transmission speed and stability. The company is also introducing a new subscription model to simplify the generational change and make it easier to seize the opportunities.
The new network standard has not been formally decided yet, but in 2024 the Wi-Fi Alliance industry organization, of which Cisco is an active member, has begun certifying products for the new generation.
Cisco's plans for Wi-Fi 7 extend beyond the products themselves. While the higher performance itself could enable new and improved experiences for all digital businesses—from shopping to manufacturing industry and healthcare – also requires a platform that has the ability to meet expectations.
Cisco's new smart access points can be managed on-premises or through the cloud, with the ability to seamlessly switch between the two. This is made possible by Cisco's Unified Network Subscription – a single license that covers the entire Cisco network. Wi-Fi 7 solution. The aim is to enable businesses to invest in wireless with confidence. technology that can grow and develop with their activities.
Through AI-based performance optimizations and instant self-configuration, the wireless network becomes intelligent – easier to manage and with better performance. The access points are deployed globally and can automatically discover locations as soon as they are connected. With access to the Cisco Spaces platform, now included in the subscription license, customers also get an operating system to transform their workspaces into smart spaces.
Security features are also AI-enhanced with market-leading capabilities for cyber threat detection, device profiling, prevention, and advanced data encryption. Cisco ThousandEyes helps users secure every connected experience with AI and automation to identify and address performance bottlenecks across wireless, proprietary, and third-party networks.
“Almost everything we connects human behavior with sensors, cameras or screens – physical experiences in an increasingly digital world. And Wi-Fi is at the center of that,” said Jeetu Patel, Cisco Chief Product Officer. With Cisco’s Wi-Fi 7access points and Cisco Spaces, we deliver the connectivity, security, and data needed to transform employee and customer experiences everywhere.
