The rumors about foldable Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, have been around for years. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is reportedly planning to launch its first foldable iPad in 2028. When unfolded, the device will measure around 20 inches — about the same size as two iPad Pros placed side by side. Currently, the largest iPad screen size is 13 inches.

The report highlights that Apple is aiming to eliminate visible creases when the foldable iPad is unfolded, with a focus on making the screen look like a single, seamless piece of glass. While creases are now almost imperceptible, Apple not yet fully resolved the problem, as the report notes.
The operating system for this device has not been finalized, but it is expected to run on iPadOS, with features from both Mac and iPad systems. According to the report, when the product launches in 2028, iPadOS is expected to be advanced enough to support macOS apps while remaining compatible with iPad-specific accessories like the Apple Pencil.
On another note, the report mentions that while much of Apple's current work on foldable screen technology is focused on developing this high-end product, the company is reportedly also exploring the possibility of a foldable iPhone.
Among major smartphone manufacturers are Apple still the only one without a foldable device, while competitors such as SamsungAlphabet Inc.'s Google and Chinese brands like Huawei have already introduced their own versions, the report notes. The report suggests a foldable iPhone could debut as early as 2026, though that timeline remains speculative.
