ManageEngine launches autonomous AI agents with privacy and data sovereignty at its core

ManageEngine introduces Zia Agents, a new generation of AI agents for IT operations, security, and service desk.

For many IT departments, the past year has been as much about navigating AI as actually using it. The allure is clear – less manual work, faster troubleshooting, fewer nightly alarms – but the question lingering in most management teams is another: Where does our data go? That is precisely the question ManageEngine is now focusing on.

Now launching ManageEngine its Zia Agents – proprietary, autonomous AI agents – across its digital enterprise management platform. Unlike an AI assistant that suggests what you should do, the agents can plan and execute tasks on their own, within the framework you define. It’s a step from AI as an aid to AI that actually takes ownership of a case from start to finish.

As a distributor for ManageEngine In Sweden, we at Inuit see this as one of the more well-thought-out AI initiatives in the industry, not least because it addresses the objection we most often hear from Nordic IT managers.

Why data sovereignty is the point

What sets this release apart from the crowd isn't that it includes AI. Basically everything does these days. The difference lies in how ManageEngine has built it. Customer data is never used to train any AI model, administrators can set clear guardrails for how agents are allowed to act, and built-in observability provides a complete log of every action an agent takes.

For a Swedish organization that must comply with GDPR, NIS2 and upcoming requirements, this is not a detail – it is a prerequisite for being able to use the technology at all. ManageEngine controls its entire technology stack itself, which makes traceability and governance something concrete rather than a promise in a terms and conditions document.

As Umasankar Narayanasamy, vice president at ManageEngine, puts it:
– The integrity principles that ManageEngine has built its platform on for two decades stand even stronger in the era of AI agents, and it gives customers the security to dare to introduce AI agents with confidence.

What Zia Agents actually do

With the launch of Zia Agents, the focus shifts from AI-based assistance to controlled, autonomous execution with data sovereignty and traceability as basic requirements.

The agents are built on the same Zia agent platform used across the ManageEngine suite, providing a common intelligence across the portfolio. This enables the rapid activation of native AI functionality across multiple products, without time-consuming custom integrations – and with the governance and transparency that Nordic businesses need to trust automation.

  • Service management: Ready-made agents such as an L1 service desk specialist, a PIR generator, and a KB article generator can be deployed in minutes. A master agent can coordinate multiple specialized subagents and allocate the right work to the right agent.
  • IT operations and observability: The agents put a action layer on top of the visibility layer. They find the root cause of an incident and pave the way for automated recovery – significantly reducing time to action.
  • Security operations: Tasks like user reviews, alert correlation, and multi-step investigations go from hours of manual work to minutes. Because agents can pull context across the entire IT suite, they can correlate anomalies, assess vulnerabilities, and map device risk in a unified assessment.
  • Endpoint management: Capable agents handle analysis and prioritization of EDR alerts, device diagnostics, and patch troubleshooting, among other things. For example, an agent can map attack chains against MITRE ATT&CK and suggest prioritized next steps before an analyst can even intervene.

Those who want to build their own can do so in Zia Agent Studio – either from scratch or by describing in plain text what the agent should do. And because ManageEngine's tools support the MCP standard, they can be connected to third-party models and other agent platforms, keeping the door open for those who don't want to lock themselves in.

AI that IT can trust

It’s easy to get tired of AI launches. But what we like about this one is that it starts at the right end: what does IT need to be able to trust to dare to release automation? The answer is control, traceability, and that data stays where it belongs. Whoever solves that equation first wins the trust, and that’s where this launch stands out.

– AI is no longer a scarce commodity, but trust is. What we encounter in Swedish organizations is not “can we automate?”, but “do we dare, and do we know where our data is going?” The strength of ManageEngine's approach is that you don't have to choose: you get the autonomy and retain control, says Erik Tjärnkvist, Product Manager at Inuit.
