The electric car charging platform eMabler, which operates Finland's largest public charging network as well as integrated parking and charging solutions across the Nordic region, has closed a Series A round of SEK 60 million (EUR 5.5 million). The financing round was led by Greencode Ventures, with participation from Swiss Post Ventures, Rethink Ventures and Helkama Real Estate.

The financing round also includes a EUR 1 million digitalisation and innovation loan from Finnvera, implemented in cooperation with the European Investment Fund with support from the guarantee scheme InvestEU, as well as a combination of grants and loans of EUR 1 million through Business Finland's programme for young innovative companies.

The capital will accelerate eMabler's expansion in Central Europe, with a particular focus on Germany, as well as in the UK. The money will also drive product development of grid-aware charging solutions that make charging of electric vehicle becomes an asset in the energy system.

While standalone apps often fragment the European EV charging landscape, eMabler’s Nordic customers have proven that the future of charging lies in integration. Retail chains, energy companies and parking operators using eMabler’s platform have built charging into their own apps, loyalty programs and services, transforming the charging infrastructure into a tool for retaining customers, generating recurring revenue and achieving flexibility in the energy system.

Juha Stenberg, CEO and co-founder of eMabler.

– The Nordic market has reached a level of maturity where standalone, industry-specific charging solutions are no longer a given. End users want charging built into the apps and services they already use. We have proven that you win the market when you make charging a natural part of the brand's core offering. This financing round allows us to meet the strongly growing demand for this integrated model in a significantly broader European market, says Juha Stenberg, CEO and co-founder of eMabler.

Finland’s largest retail chain, S Group, operates its ABC charging network via eMabler. By linking charging to its loyalty program and app, S Group has become Finland’s largest operator of public charging with a market share of over 50 percent. This in turn drives both store sales and electricity revenues. Similarly, state-owned energy giant Neste offers integrated charging to corporate customers with vehicle fleets, both at workplaces and stations, via its own digital channels. This eliminates the need for external charging interfaces.

Nordic parking giants Aimo Park and Time Park have bundled parking and charging in one app, leading to higher revenue per customer and increased customer loyalty. eMabler is also partnering with EasyPark, enabling parking operators across Europe to offer combined parking and charging services directly in the EasyPark app.

At the same time, see eMabler how electric vehicle charging is developing into an increasingly important resource for the energy system. As electricity prices become more volatile due to weather-dependent renewable energy and crises in the energy market, eMabler is moving the finishing line for energy companies forward.

Instead of just selling more electricity, the platform enables operators to optimize when charging actually occurs. By intelligently scheduling charging based on day-ahead prices and real-time grid status, operators can improve margins, reduce customer churn, and create flexible demand that benefits the entire power system.

– The European market for electric vehicle charging is growing at a breakneck pace, and the next decade will be determined by the underlying software. eMabler recognized this early, invested in an open architecture and has a Nordic customer base that proves it works. We believe their model is highly scalable across Europe, and we are investing in an exceptional team with solid expertise in e-mobility, a disciplined approach to development and a clear view of where the market is heading, says Ines Bergmann-Nolting, Managing Partner at Greencode Ventures.

The Series A funding will focus on two strategic priorities: European expansion and continued investment in hardware-independent and grid-aware software, which transforms charging infrastructure into a flexible energy resource that responds to market and grid conditions in real time.
