In addition to voice controls, Ballie also recognizes your “foot presses” on a virtual button to complete a task, like saying OK or “show me more.” An array of cameras and sensors make this virtual interaction possible. After being presented with two wines and asked which would go better with steak, Ballie could use your “foot presses” to ask follow-up questions and eventually make a recommendation.

Samsung is not the first company to try to bring robots into the home. For the past few years, Amazon has been selling the Astro home robot, which is powered by Alexa and can move around the home, but today it is only selling the device for $1,600 through ”exclusive invitation.” . LG has similarly shown ambitions for home robots at previous CES trade shows, but it is unclear when or if these products will ever be available.

Even Apple has been rumored to be expanding into the smart home, with a report last year suggesting it was looking into the space. More recent rumors have claimed that Apple could share news about new smart home products as soon as March.
