SEPPmail acquires CyberPilot and begins building a leading European email security platform
The solutions from the Danish specialist in security awareness training and phishing simulation will complement the SEPPmail Group's existing human risk prevention offering. This is the second acquisition in the building of a superior, European platform strategy for email security.
- Email security extends to the human factor: With CyberPilot, SEPPmail addresses human risks in a systematic way for the first time.
- European and sovereign: Suppliers outside of Europe were never part of the considerations. Sovereignty is the guiding principle in the development of the platform, by Europe, for Europe.
- A broader product portfolio: Phishing simulation and risk awareness training expand today's encryption and protection portfolio into a comprehensive, end-to-end secured email solution.
- Channel availability: Rollout to distributors and partners in the German-speaking market from the end of 2026.
- Signing and encryption according to S/MIME and PGP standards confirms that a message is authentic and keeps the content confidential during transmission.
- GINA and Managed Domain Encryption enables encrypted exchange even with partners who do not have their own encryption solution.
- Large File Transfer ensures secure delivery of large files, without detours through uncontrolled storage services.
- The spam and malware filter in SEPPmail.cloud are among the most capable in the world.
SEPPmail AG has acquired the Danish company CyberPilot ApS, headquartered in Aarhus. Through the acquisition, the email security specialist is expanding its offering beyond technical protection for the first time and addressing the area of human risks. CyberPilot offers security awareness training and phishing simulation, has around 50 employees and collaborates with more than 1,000 organizations across Europe. Signing and closing have been completed and the parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
The acquisition is another building block in a platform strategy: SEPPmail is bringing together its existing portfolio into a European end-to-end platform for email security and will gradually add more disciplines. Origin was a fixed selection criterion in the process and suppliers outside Europe were not considered.
Four building blocks protect technology, the fifth protects people
SEPPmails solutions protect email communications largely automatically, without users having to do anything active.
However, one risk remains, and it lies with people. This is where human risk management comes in: awareness training conveys how attacks work and what mistakes are typical. Phishing simulations then make it measurable how safely an organization reacts when it really matters and trains employees to react correctly.
”On the technical side, we have been reliably protecting our customers” email communications for many years. The only factor that remains is the human factor,” says Marcus Zeidler, CEO of SEPPmail AG. ”It is no coincidence that we chose a European provider to manage this human risk. We see growing concerns in the market about international providers based outside of Europe, and this applies to all industries. For many of our customers, data sovereignty has long been a requirement in the supply chain. That is exactly what we are building our platform around, in every respect and with all solutions.”
Effective training at a manageable operating cost
Since its inception, CyberPilot has focused exclusively on the human side of IT security, with a pedagogical rather than a purely technical approach: the goal is the best possible and measurable learning outcomes, not the largest possible number of features.
In addition to the quality of the content, the workload for operation was a decisive factor. Many solutions in this market segment are demanding to configure and can only be maintained over time with significant resources. CyberPilot remains easy to administer and is therefore also well suited to the needs of medium-sized organizations. Artificial intelligence is used deliberately where it relieves people of work, without taking control away from the administrator.
”We built CyberPilot to create impact from the very beginning, not to count features,” says Rasmus Vinge, CEO and co-founder of CyberPilot. ”We use artificial intelligence where it saves work. Control over the system still lies with the administrator. In the AI era, huge amounts of features can be launched in a very short time, but not all of them are useful. We look carefully at which features we implement, how and why. What convinced us to become part of the SEPPmail group was the future prospects: a European platform for email security where our training will be an important building block, together with two strong partners in SEPPmail and LEA Partners.”
Existing agreements continue and the channel has more to offer
For existing customers of both companies, nothing will change for the time being: contracts, contact points and support will continue as before. CyberPilot will continue to be operated as an independent unit within the SEPPmail Group and the current management will become part of the Group's management team.
SEPPmail sells exclusively through the channel. The same will apply to CyberPilot's solutions in the German-speaking market. Ahead of the rollout, the two companies will jointly adapt localization, packaging and functionality to the DACH market and build up the sales and support expertise required to provide partners with the best possible support. Availability for distributors and partners is planned from the end of 2026.
”A truly superior, European platform for email security does not exist today. That is precisely the position that SEPPmail and CyberPilot are now taking,” says Kurt Weise, partner at LEA Partners. ”SEPPmail has the customer base, the channel and the technical substance required to build a platform. CyberPilot is an important strategic partnership on that path.”
The ambition: European email security in its entirety
The next confirmed step is a central administration console where all components of the platform can be administered together. In the medium term, the combined offering will also be launched in more European markets.
More steps will follow CyberPilot. In the coming years, SEPPmail will expand its offering to more disciplines and consistently select European technology partners in that process.
”Our ambition is to cover European email security in its entirety,” concludes Marcus Zeidler. ”CyberPilot is the first step on that path and more will follow. Anyone who follows us in the coming years will see a company that gives its customers more than technology: it gives them reliability in an issue that has become strategic for Europe.”
