Microsoft takes a big step in AI-powered cybersecurity by launching MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, the company's first proprietary AI model specifically designed for cybersecurity. At the same time, the company is presenting Project Perception, a new agent-based security platform that will help organizations identify, analyze and remediate security threats faster and more cost-effectively.
The launch marks an important change in Microsoft's AI strategy. Instead of relying solely on general-purpose large language models, the company has developed a specialized model that focuses on vulnerability analysis, threat identification, and security automation. According to Microsoft, the goal is to give security teams access to AI that is optimized for real-world cyber threats and can be integrated into existing workflows.
Specialized AI for modern cyber threats
The new model, MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, has been developed to analyze known vulnerabilities, prioritize risks, and generate suggested actions. Microsoft states that the model, along with the company's security environment MDASH and GPT-5.4, achieved approximately 96 percent on the established security benchmark test CyberGym, while requiring about half as many computational resources as previous solutions.
Microsoft believes that the lower resource consumption makes it possible to use AI on a larger scale for continuous security analysis without the costs increasing at the same rate.
Project Perception introduces AI agents for security work
In addition to the new model, presents Microsoft also Project Perception, an agent-based platform where multiple specialized AI agents collaborate to automate different parts of security work.
The platform is developed to be able to:
- Identify and analyze vulnerabilities
- Prioritize security risks
- Suggest or automate actions
- Help security teams handle incidents faster
- Integrates with existing security tools and workflows
Microsoft describes the solution as a step towards more autonomous security work where AI acts as an augmentation of security analysts rather than a replacement.

The launch comes as cyber threats become more advanced and attackers increasingly use AI to automate attacks, develop malware, and identify new vulnerabilities.

Public preview expected soon
Microsoft announces that a public preview of MAI-Cyber-1-Flash will be made available shortly, while the company plans to gradually expand the functionality of Project Perception with more AI-powered security tools.
