TP-Link introduces Archer 8, the company's first router solution based on the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard (IEEE 802.11bn). Expected to launch in October 2026, the product has been developed with a focus on more stable connections, lower latency and smoother performance in homes with a growing number of connected devices.

In October 2025, TP-Link conducted the first publicly reported test of a Wi-Fi 8 connection, verifying both beacon functionality and data transmission using prototype-based technology. With Archer 8, the company is now taking the next step from test environment to commercial product, paving the way for the next generation of wireless networking in the home.

Focus shifts from top speeds to user experience

As more devices connect to the home network, the demands on wireless infrastructure are also changing. According to TP-Link, the future of Wi-Fi is not just about higher theoretical speeds, but about delivering stability, reliability and low latency in real-world usage scenarios.

Archer 8 is the first product in TP-Link's upcoming Wi-Fi 8 portfolio and has been developed to address common challenges in modern home networks, such as patchy coverage, unstable mesh roaming, and lag during gaming, video calling, and streaming.

The router combines a minimalist design with advanced antenna architecture, RF optimization, and AI-powered network intelligence to create a stable and consistent user experience. The solution is designed to work in everything from smaller apartments to larger villas and multi-story buildings.

“Wi-Fi has long been evaluated based on theoretical peak performance, but that doesn’t reflect how networks are actually used in the home. Archer 8 is designed for real-world usage conditions with many devices on the network, interference from other wireless products, and walls and floors between the router and users. The result is lower latency, better performance in the face of interference, and a connection that lasts throughout the home,” said PJ Li, President of Product at TP-Link Systems Inc.

Wi-Fi 8 should deliver better performance in real-world environments

TP-Link has conducted internal lab tests comparing early implementations of Wi-Fi 8 to Wi-Fi 7 in simulated home environments. The results show that Wi-Fi 8 can improve the user experience even when the network is exposed to load, interference, and varying signal strength.

Among the results are:

  • Up to 33 percent higher throughput at comparable distances, while maintaining performance further from the router.
  • Up to 24 percent better stability when signal quality varies between spatial streams.
  • Up to 15 percent higher performance in environments with multiple access points and high levels of interference.
  • Up to 30 percent better performance in multi-story buildings when connected with a single unit.
  • Between 10 and 20 percent improved performance in environments with multiple simultaneous devices thanks to advanced antenna architecture and AI-assisted optimization.
  • Between 1 and 3 dB improved receiver sensitivity on both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands for stronger and more reliable coverage.

TP-Link emphasizes that the results are based on internal laboratory tests under controlled conditions and that actual performance may vary depending on client devices, network configuration, interference, and ambient environment.

First step in TP-Link's Wi-Fi 8 initiative

With Archer 8, you TP-Link position in the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 generation and marks the start of a broader product portfolio based on the new standard. The company's ambition is to meet the increasing demands of modern digital households where an increasing number of devices, services and applications compete for network capacity.

The launch of Archer 8 is scheduled for October 2026.
