Agnes Stenbom is AI Swede of the Year 2024

Agnes Stenbom is awarded for her groundbreaking work that shows how AI can shape the media of the future to support democracy and inclusion. She is an industrial doctoral student and one of the founders of the Nordic AI Journalism initiative, where she works to promote responsible AI development in journalism. Her efforts have contributed to an ethical and transparency-driven use of AI that puts human values in focus, both in Sweden and internationally.

– Agnes Stenbom is a role model whose efforts pave the way for responsible AI development in journalism and the media industry. Through her work, she shows how technology can help strengthen citizens' access to reliable and relevant information. With her knowledge and tireless curiosity, Agnes is a true source of inspiration and her efforts set new standards for how AI can be developed and used with responsibility and societal benefit in focus, says Åsa Zetterberg, Federation Director at TechSverige and chair of the jury.

IN/LAB was founded in 2022 as a joint initiative between Schibsted Media and the owner foundation Tinius Trust. It has been led since its inception by Agnes Stenbom and works to ensure that a diversity of voices shape the media of the futureTogether with young people from underrepresented groups, new technological possibilities and creative ways to meet the challenges many people experience with editorial media today are explored.

Nordic AI Journalism, which Agnes Stenbom co-founded, is an industry network that has been promoting responsible AI use in journalism since 2020. and beyond the Nordic countriesBy bringing together experts and journalists, ethical AI solutions are explored that strengthen journalistic values and democracy, while putting citizens' trust in the media in focus.

The jury's motivation:

Agnes Stenbom has demonstrated through her groundbreaking work for Schibsted and Tinius Trust how AI can shape the media of the future to support democracy and inclusion. As founder and head of IN/LAB, she has explored the opportunities and challenges of AI technology in the media industry and has shown the way for an ethical and sustainable use of AI that puts human values in focus. Through the initiative Nordic AI Journalism She promotes a responsible and transparency-driven development of AI in journalism – something that makes her a role model and inspiration on both a Swedish and international level. As an industrial doctoral student, with a unique combination of leadership and visionary perspectives, Agnes Stenbom is a strong voice for technology that empowers both citizens and society, and her work sets a new standard for ethical AI use in media.

About the AI Swedish of the Year
