Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in advanced memory technology, today announced the launch of the SSD 990 EVO — the latest addition to the company's consumer SSD lineup — delivering powerful performance with improved power efficiency. Designed to enhance everyday computing such as gaming, work and video editing, the NVMe SSD should be an ideal solution for a diverse user group.

Improved performance
The 990 EVO offers improved performance with up to 43% compared to the previous model, the 970 EVO Plus. Sequential read speeds reach up to 5,000 megabytes per second (MB/s) and write speeds up to 4,200 MB/s. Random read and write speeds are also improved by up to 700,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) and 800,000 IOPS, respectively.
By using Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology to directly connect to the host processor's DRAM, the SSD can achieve optimized performance even with a DRAM-Less design. Users upgrading from previous mainstream SSDs will experience faster game load speeds and quick access to large files.
Improved efficiency and smart thermal solution
The Samsung 990 EVO has an improved power efficiency of up to 70% compared to the 970 EVO Plus, offering users increased computing without the constant worry of battery life. It also supports Modern Standby1, enabling an instant on/off function with uninterrupted internet connection and seamless notification reception, even in power saving mode.
The 990 EVO's heat dissipation label effectively regulates the thermal state of the NAND chip, allowing functions to be used consistently at their highest levels without compromising device integrity.
A versatile SSD for today's and tomorrow's computing
The 990 EVO is a versatile SSD created to meet today's computing needs and expected future demands. Users can experience seamless multitasking with a single SSD that meets the demands of everyday activities such as gaming, work and creative workflows.
Supporting both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces, the 990 EVO meets the needs of today's PCs that support PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, while offering compatibility along with thermal control and power savings for PCIe 5.0 interfaces in future applications.
The 990 EVO is available in 1 terabyte (TB) and 2TB capacities.

Samsung Magician software presents a solution of optimization tools for improved functionality for all Samsung SSDs, including the 990 EVO. Users can easily and smoothly optimize the data migration process for SSD upgrades in a secure manner. In addition, Samsung Magician protects valuable data, monitors device health and notifies of early firmware updates.
